Summer Contreras scored a hat trick and Olivia Perkins led a strong defensive performance on Tuesday, as the South Fork Cubs defeated Ferndale 3-0 in Little 3 girls soccer.
The win was the third of the season for the South Fork girls and their first in conference play.
Contreras gave her team the lead just minutes in after jumping on a short kick out and slotting home, and the Cubs would lead the remainder of the way.
“It was a very encouraging result for us going down the stretch of a tough season,” South Fork head coach Ann Constantino said.
Contreras added a second midway through the first half, running on to a well-placed through ball from Shawnessy Conway-O’Neill and rounding the keeper before slotting home.
The Wildcats, who had just 10 players available for the game, dominated the early second-half exchanges, with Perkins leading a big defensive performance by the Cubs at sweeper.
“Hats off to Ferndale for playing tough with 10,” Constantino said.
In goal, South Fork senior Lyndsee Brewer continued to impress in slippery conditions, making five saves.
“It’s such a thrill to see a senior at the top of her game,” Constantino said of Brewer.
Contreras closed out the scoring with 10 minutes remaining, netting for the 10th time this season off a Cadence Young assist.
Lily Carr and Milani Hunnicutt also played well in defense for the Cubs, while Conway-O’Neill, Young and Kaylee Cotter all contributed on both sides of the ball.
