NCS volleyball playoff field announced

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Arcata girls will open the NCS playoffs at home to Fort Bragg on Wednesday.

By Ray Hamill — Seven of the nine H-DNL varsity volleyball teams have made this year’s North Coast Section playoffs, which get under way this week.

Conference champions Arcata and St. Bernard’s will each open at home, with the other five schools all opening on the road.

In the Division-4 bracket, Big 5 champs Arcata received the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Fort Bragg on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Little 4 champs St. Bernard’s is seeded No. 3 in Division 6 and will have a midweek first-round bye before hosting either No. 6 Holy Names or No. 11 Roseland Prep on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Co-Little 4 champs Hoopa will get the action started for the local contingent on Tuesday night, when the No. 12 Warriors travel to play No. 5 Sonoma Academy in the Division-5 bracket.

The Ferndale Wildcats also qualified for the postseason and are seeded No. 9 in Division 6.

The Cats open on the road at North Hills Christian on Wednesday night.

Four H-DNL teams made the Division-4 field.

In addition to Arcata, the Del Norte Warriors and Fortuna Huskies are also included and could meet in the second round if each wins their playoff opener on Wednesday night.

The Warriors are seeded No. 12 and open at No. 5 Justin-Siena, while the Huskies are No. 13 and open at No. 4 San Rafael.

McKinleyville also opens the D-4 bracket on Wednesday night, when the No. 14 Panthers play at No. 3 University.
