The Fortuna Huskies remained unbeaten in boys soccer with a 4-0 win over Eureka on Saturday.
With the victory, the Huskies improved to 8-0 in the Big 5 and 12-0 overall.
“We looked good in the first half, and I think Eureka kind of settled in in the second half,” Fortuna head coach Daniel Holmes said.
Antonio Gacinuno scored twice in the win, including a bullet of a shot from outside the penalty area.
Lane Shelton and RJ Rexford both also scored, as the Huskies took a three-goal lead into the break and always appeared in control.
Angel Diaz also continued to impress in the win.
“He’s composed and he’s playing with a little more intensity in the middle,” Holmes said of Diaz. “He’s definitely a link for us.”
The Fortuna coach also praised the performance of the Loggers.
“Hats off to Eureka,” he said. “(Head coach) Ed (Garcia) has them playing with a lot of heart.”
Arcata 2, McKinleyville 0
Arcata goalkeeper Everett Namen posted a clean sheet in a shutout victory over McKinleyville, as the Tigers got their second straight win.
According to head coach John Davidson, Namen provided some strong leadership between the posts and made some key saves to preserve the shutout.
Izaiah Grosveld and Danial Davidson each scored in the win, as Arcata improved to 5-2-1 in the Big 5 and 7-3-2 overall.
Kayin Kloberdanz also had an assist in the win.
