No separating Ferndale, South Fork in girls soccer

The Wildcats scored late on Wednesday to secure a 1-1 tie against South Fork in Little 3 girls soccer.

Reaghan Langer netted the equalizer a few minutes from time after Summer Contreras had given the Cubs the lead early in the second half.

“Our girls played well,” Ferndale head coach Beth Anderson said. “I think we passed the ball well. We had 15 shots and hit the crossbar and the post a few times. It was kind of one of those nights where we couldn’t get the ball in, but I do think the South Fork defense played well.”

Olivia Perkins led the way defensively for the Cubs, and was, according to head coach Ann Constantino, always in the right place at the right time.

“Her vision of the game really holds the defense together,” the coach said.

Caidence Young, who assisted on Contreras’ goal, also continued to impress after switching to a midfield role, as did Shaughnessy Conway-O’Neill.

“It was a great team effort, and despite having no subs we seemed to gain momentum as the game went on,” Constantino said.

Goalie Lyndsee Brewer also had a big game between the posts, making several key saves to keep her team in contention, while the ever-reliable Macy Yarbrough continued to impress with her tireless intensity.

For the Wildcats, sophomore Brynn Luna continued to improve and had a big game at wing back.

“Our whole defensive unit played a strong game and we had quite a lot of possession time,” Anderson said.
