By Ray Hamill — With conference play now just one week away for both the Big 4 and Little 4, this weekend marks the final tune-up game for many football teams in the H-DNL.

Five local varsity teams will be in action, including one playing here on the North Coast, while four others have a bye.

On Friday night, the Arcata Tigers will look for a second straight win in their second straight home game.

The Tigers (1-2) host Pinole Valley (2-2) at Mack High at 6 p.m., in their only matchup of the season against another North Coast Section Division-6 team, giving the game a little added importance.

Also on Friday, Fortuna (3-0) travels to Foothill (2-1) with the Huskies hoping to stretch their unbeaten start to four straight, ahead of next week’s Big 4 opener against Eureka.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

St. Bernard’s (2-1), meanwhile, will try to hand University Prep (4-0) its first loss of the season in Redding.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Two other H-DNL varsity teams will be in action on Saturday, including the Eureka Loggers, who will finally get to play at Windsor (3-0) in a game that was postponed from week two because of COVID protocols.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

The Loggers are 1-1 after a close 13-12 loss at Shasta last week, and like SB they will be trying to hand their opponents their first loss of the season.

Rounding out the weekend games, the South Fork Cubs (1-1) will play at California School for the Deaf (2-1) in Fremont on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Hoopa, McKinleyville, Ferndale and Del Norte all have byes this weekend.
