Top three remain unchanged in H-DNL girls golf

McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg continued to lead the way in H-DNL girls golf this week, with another strong performance at the Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club in Fortuna.

Sundberg shot a 103 for her second victory in two rounds this season, as she looks to take control of the early season standings.

The Panthers junior was five strokes better than her round at last week’s season opener at Beau Pre, and six strokes better than the field this week.

Eureka’s Ileah Brannon and Arcata’s Avery Meadows tied for second place for the second straight week, shooting identical rounds of 109.

Meadows led a strong showing by the Arcata girls, who leapfrogged Eureka in the team season standings with an impressive 29-point win after losing to the Loggers in week one.

The Tigers had four golfers in the top 10, including Iris Coonrod (114) in fourth, Morgan Ford (116) in sixth and Sagen Sarchett (126) in 10th.

McKinleyville’s Neyr-Res Bartoo placed fifth after shooting a 115, with St. Bernard’s Allyson Hagler (119) in seventh, Eureka’s Mia Lopez (122) in eighth, and St. Bernard’s Hannah Fink (123) in ninth.

McKinleyville shot a combined 502, placing third on the day as a team, just eight strokes behind Eureka.
