By Ray Hamill — McKinleyville’s Lacie Rink saved a certain goal on Wednesday night, as the Panthers matched Eureka all the way in a 1-1 tie in girls soccer.
The sophomore was one of several defenders on either team who already looks to be in mid-season form and came up with one of the biggest plays of the game in the second half.
With Eureka attacking, Mallorie Beauchamp slipped by a defender and sent a dangerous cross into the goalmouth.
The ball fell into the path of Eureka striker Kira Morris, whose shot was deflected by Mack goalie Caitlyn Canepa but was still headed toward the goal line, only for Rink to clear and deny what looked like a certain goal.
