The Humboldt State men’s soccer team will celebrate its 50th anniversary this season, as the Jacks get set to return to the field in early September.
Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Fred Jungemann, the Jacks kick off the new campaign against Westminister College in Utah on September 3.
Their home opener is scheduled for September 17 against Simpson University, which will be the first official game on the HSU campus since 2019.
“It has been a long and frustrating year, but we are excited to be back playing games this fall,” Jungemann said. “We are looking forward to starting the year off with two tough non-conference games (against Westminister and Northwest Nazarene) in Salt Lake City.
“These out-of-state trips are always fun for the guys and a memorable part of the student athlete experience.
The Lumberjacks played six matches during the shortened 2020-21 spring season and were 4-1-1 in those matches.
Humboldt State returns 17 players from the 2020-21 season including Devin Hauenstein, who was named to the 2019 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association Team.
“Per the norm in the CCAA, we are expecting another extremely difficult and competitive conference season,” Jungemann said. “We have some long and difficult conference road trips, particularly the trips to SoCal. It is such a privilege to play in such a difficult conference. The level of coaching and play is amazing every week and really makes for an amazing college soccer experience. We will look forward to seeing everyone on the field. Go Jacks!”
There will be more information on the 50th anniversary celebrations announced at a later date.
