The Arcata girls overcame a slow start to Thursday’s basketball game at home to South Fork, but ultimately were too strong for the young Cubs, winning 58-20.

It was senior night for the Tigers, who only started play earlier this week because of COVID protocols, and the team honored Zoie Andre, Maia Perry and Tatum Carlin before tip-off.

Andre had a big night in the win, finishing with a game-high 13 points, while Alia Prentiss added 11 points and Grace Talty had 10.

“We didn’t play well early in the game, and then we kind of settled down,” head coach Doug Oliveira said. “For our second game of the year, we played well in the second half.”

Kaylee Cotter scored six points to lead the way offensively for the Cubs, while teammate Summer Contreras added five points.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-0.

A young South Fork team is now 0-5 after playing all four of the Big 5 schools in the opening two weeks.

Next up, the Tigers host St. Bernard’s on Friday night, while South Fork plays at St. Bernard’s on Saturday.
