Big second half lifts Tigers past the Warriors

A big second half saw the Arcata Tigers rally from a seven-point halftime deficit to secure their most impressive win of the opening week at Crescent City on Saturday night.

After managing just 12 points through the opening two quarters, the Tigers came alive offensively after the interval on the way to a 47-43 win over Del Norte.

Mason Railsback got the rally started by scoring seven of his nine points in the third quarter, while Brandon Bento-Jackson led the way defensively with another big performance.

“He played tremendous on the defensive end and made it tough for us,” Del Norte head coach Marc Slayton said of Bento-Jackson.

Aidan Atkins scored a team-high 13 points in the win, while Kai Purcell added nine points and Marcus Bensen eight.

Kaleb Price scored a team-high 13 points for Del Norte, while Edwin Zepeda added 12 and Wyatt Robson and Judson Pincombe five apiece.

“Both teams played extremely hard, both teams battled,” Slayton said.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-0, while Del Norte dropped to 2-1.
