By Ray Hamill — Orion Cosce will finally make his log awaited UFC debut in July, it was announced this week.
The Humboldt County native will fight Phillip Rowe in a welterweight showdown on July 31 at a yet-to-be-determined location.
Cosce earned himself a UFC contract at the Dana White Contender Series last August and was scheduled to make his UFC debut in November, but was forced to pull out of the event late with an injury.
Cosce, who is affiliated with the Lost Boys gym in Arcata, is 100 percent healthy again.
Rowe, who also got a UFC contract through the White contender series, is 0-1 in the UFC after losing to Gabe Green in a unanimous decision at UFC 258 in February.
The fighter, nicknamed “The Fresh Prince” had won seven straight going into that fight, but did not fight at all in 2020 because of injuries.
He is 7-3 as a pro.
Cosce, a former Hoopa High wrestler, is 7-0 in the pro ranks after beating the favored Matt Dixon last August.
Orion’s brother Louis, who is also a UFC fighter, is expected back in the cage later this year.
