Former Arcata Tiger Jaden Gorge was 3-for-5 with a double on Thursday, as the Shasta College Knights swept a doubleheader from College of the Redwoods in Golden Valley Conference baseball.
The Knights won 12-2 and 9-5, and have now taken three of four games from CR this season.
Gorge, who is fourth in conference with a .425 batting average, also had three RBIs and three runs, and stole three bases in the second game.
He now has a conference-leading 10 stolen bases this spring.
Del Norte’s Cole Harper also had an RBI in the win.
Fortuna’s Garrett Aust had one of CR’s three hits in the opener, as did Raul Soto-Romero and Cameron Allenshipman.
The Knights however, quickly took control with five runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the third.
Patrick Morgan hit a home run for CR in game two, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate, while Maxwell Shanks was 2-for-3 and Soto-Romero had a double.
Nathan Findley took the loss on the mound in game one, while Chandler Jones took the loss in game two.
Injuries haven’t helped the Corsairs this spring, with some key personnel missing from an already small roster.
“That’s still not an excuse to not execute the little things in games, or to have a lack of execution at times,” interim head coach Andrew Aiello said. “Our pitching staff is being put to the test and we need to back them up more consistently.”
CR is now 1-16, while Shasta improved to 9-11.
The two teams will meet in another doubleheader on Saturday at Bomber Field in Eureka.
