Henry places second at NACC tournament, earns freshman of the year honors

Submitted photo – Former Arcata Tiger Avery Henry, left, along with Aurora University head coach Justin Wyeth and teammate Kallie Sakamoto after their big weekend.

Arcata’s Avary Henry capped an outstanding freshman season in collegiate golf over the weekend, placing second overall at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference women’s golf championships.

The 2020 Tigers graduate, who competes for Division-III Aurora University in Illinois, was also named conference freshman of the year.

Playing at the Meadowbrook Country Club in Wisconsin, Henry shot a 259 over the three days, with rounds of 92, 82 and 85.

Teammate Kallie Sakamoto was first overall, three strokes better than Henry, with the Spartans placing fourth out of eight teams.

Both Aurora stars also received all-conference honors, with Sakamoto, a junior, named conference player of the year.

It’s been a sensational season for Henry, who was named conference player of the week two weeks ago and hit a hole in one later that week at the St. Andrews Golf Club in West Chicago, Illinois.
