The Hoopa Warriors got the new softball season off to a winning start at Arcata on Wednesday afternoon, edging the Tigers 4-3.
Pitcher Savannah Colegrove picked up just where she left off two seasons ago, posting the win in the circle and also providing her team with a timely boost at the plate.
In addition to striking out 15 batters, Colegrove also drove in the winning run in the top of the seventh.
For Arcata, Morgan Ford had a big game, finishing 2-for-2 at the plate while also turning in a strong pitching performance.
Arcata’s Sagen Sarchett also had a big opener, hitting a two-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.
A young Arcata team, which had just one player on the field with any varsity experience, will play at St. Bernard’s on Wednesday.
Hoopa, meanwhile, plays at South Fork on Saturday.
