POWER RANKINGS — Huskies impress again; Loggers make a move

By Ray Hamill — The Eureka Loggers came away from Del Norte with a statement win over the weekend, forcing a change near the top of the power rankings this week.

It also changes the perspective of the H-DNL season a little.

With just two weekends remaining in the season, there are a couple of huge matchups on tap that will have a big say in the final power rankings.

The Del Norte Warriors could make things very interesting if they can beat No. 1 Fortuna this week, while a season-ending showdown between the Huskies and Loggers the following week is looking more and more like it could be an unofficial Big 4 championship game.

The Loggers play St. Bernard’s this weekend.

The Arcata Tigers and Ferndale Wildcats also meet in a pivotal game this weekend, one that will have an impact on next week’s rankings.

1 — Fortuna (3-0), the weekend served up another big win for the Huskies, who are still the team to beat on the North Coast.

2 — Eureka (3-0), a quickly improving Loggers team appears best equipped to tackle the Huskies.

3 — Del Norte (1-1), after almost pulling out a big comeback win against Eureka, the Warriors should be up for the challenge of the Huskies this week.

4 — Arcata (1-2), the Tigers got their first win against Fortuna’s Killer B’s, but the Wildcats will be a much tougher challenge

5 — Ferndale (2-1), Casts looked impressive against McKinleyville and will be motivated again in Friday’s crucial all-Little 4 showdown.
