Freshman standout leads the field to become first repeat winner in H-DNL golf

Eureka freshman Talon Vigil became the first winner to repeat in H-DNL boys golf this season, at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday.

Vigil shot a season-best 74 to pace the field by three strokes, giving him his second winning round of the season and his first since the opening day.

The standout freshman led another strong showing for the Loggers, who placed four golfers in the top six and comfortably took their fourth team win in four tries this season.

Senior Hunter Blevins, who placed first the last time out, tied for second on Wednesday along with teammate Colton Tracy, with rounds of 77 for each for them.

As a team, Eureka shot a 316, followed by St. Bernard’s (361) and Arcata (368).

For the season, Eureka (1412) holds a huge advantage over Arcata (1556) and St. Bernard’s (1570).

The Eureka Loggers have dominated so far this season.

Arcata’s Kyle Plumley continued his impressive season with an 81 on Wednesday, while St. Bernard’s Jack Kramer and Eureka’s Julian Goodman tied for fifth with rounds of 88.

Fortuna’s Lucas Senestraro was seventh on the day with an 89.

The H-DNL season concludes at Del Norte on Monday.
