Sundberg continues to lead the way in girls golf

McKinleyville senior Isabella Sundberg continued her impressive start to the new season with a second straight round of 88 at the Redwood Golf and Country Club in Fortuna on Monday.

Sundberg shot a 44 on both the front nine and back nine and comfortably outdistanced the field by 17 strokes in cold conditions.

The Mack senior also shot an 88 at the season opener in Del Norte last week and is setting a blistering pace for the league through the opening two rounds.

As a team, the Arcata Tigers continued to shine, with three of the top five scores on the day, including Mari Pepper, who shot a 105 for the second best round.

Papper’s teammates Kate Plumley and Brook Bisgrove were each one stroke back with rounds of 106.

Fortuna senior Gracie Betts made her season debut and impressed with a round of 107, while  Arcata’s Kyra Always was next best with a 110.

Marissa Highley was the top performer for Eureka with a round of 113, while Molly Slayton paced Del Norte for the second straight outing with a 125.

McKinleyville’s Sofie Sundberg also impressed with a round of 120 for the eighth best round of the day.

The girls will be back in action on Wednesday of next week at the Eureka Municipal Golf Course.
