By Ray Hamill — The effects of COVID-19 continue to impact sports in California, with the news this week that Sacramento State will not play football in the spring.
The decision was announced on Thursday, with head coach Troy Taylor indicating he is reluctant to have his players play two seasons in the same calendar year.
The Hornets compete in the Big Sky Conference, which is scheduled to play the 2020 season in the spring and the 2021 season in the fall.
Sac State won a share of the Big Sky championship in 2019 and qualified for the FCS playoffs.
The Hornets play in the same conference as UC Davis, a team that former Eureka standout Miles Meynell will play for.
The 2020 Eureka graduate, however, will red shirt this year and will not play two seasons in the same calendar year.
