NCS approves H-DNL calendar

By Ray Hamill — The North Coast Section approved the proposed H-DNL sports calendar for 2020/21 at its Board of Managers meeting on Friday morning.

The league had proposed a three-season calendar instead of the two-season format the rest of the section and much of the state has scheduled, in large part to ensure that local multi-sport athletes would not have to sacrifice one sport for another.

And on Friday, the H-DNL was given the green light, as expected.

The H-DNL sports year is now scheduled to get under way in December, with cross country and basketball slated to go first.

Football, soccer and volleyball are scheduled to begin in late January/early February, with the traditional spring sports seasons running from April to June.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin in March and run to June.

Because most of the H-DNL sports will now not run at the same time as the rest of the section, many will not be eligible for postseason competition.

Wrestling and the traditional spring sports, however, will all be eligible for the postseason.

  1. I’m so sorry for all the athletes that won’t be able to play in playoffs and have the opportunity to play in front of a larger audience. Recruiting opportunities for single sport athletes will be sacrificed for multi sport athletes. This is so sad for so many students athletes. Flu season will likely derail the December-January sports seasons. Just wait. This is not good news for many😥
