By Ray Hamill — Three former H-DNL players got the go-ahead for their collegiate seasons in the past 24 hours, with both the Mid-American and Mountain West conferences voting to play football this fall after all.

The two conferences feature a trio of local products — McKinleyville’s Bryce Peterson and Kyle Spalding, and Eureka’s Isaak Gutierrez — and joined the PAC-12 in reversing their earlier decisions to suspend play until the spring, meaning all 10 FBS conferences are now scheduled to play this fall.

The Mountain West voted on Thursday to play an eight-game season starting on October 24 and finishing on December 19, the day before playoff selections will be made.

The conference features two local players — Spalding, a starting senior offensive tackle at San Diego State, and Gutierrez, a sophomore who joined New Mexico this offseason and is listed as the back-up center.

The MAC voted on Friday to play a six-game schedule kicking off on November 4 and also concluding by December 19.

Petersen, who plays for the University of Akron, is a senior preseason all-conference selection at center and expected to play a big role for the Zips in his final campaign.
