Wide-open RAR season resumes on Saturday

Ray Hamill/ – The Late Models return to the Redwood Ares this weekend.

By Ray Hamill — All five divisions will be in action at the Redwood Acres Raceway this weekend, as the season begins to wind down and heat up at the same time.

And what a competitive season it has been so far, with just one repeat winner in the 15 combined main events.

Bryan Brandt has been the track’s most consistent driver, taking the checkered flag in each of the last two Roadrunner main events, after placing second in week one.

Brandt will be looking to maintain his stranglehold on the division this weekend.

The Legends division, meanwhile, has been the most exciting of all five divisions, with Dane Nissen the most consistent driver, taking a first and two second places in the three main events so far.

Chris Lawrence and Derek Copeland each also have won a main event.

The Late Models return to the track this weekend after a bye two weeks ago, and with six different drivers placing in the top three over the first two races of the season this is a division that appears wide open with three events remaining.

In the Bombers division, meanwhile, Dustin Walters placed first at the recent Upstate Bombers Series race, the third different main event winner in the division this season, following Brandon White and Loren Powers.

And rounding out the divisions, Brett Murrell, Jarett Mayo and Gary Klientobe have each taken a main event in the Mini Stocks.

Saturday’s action, which gets under way at 3 p.m., will have no fans in attendance and will be streamed live on the raceway’s Facebook page.

A test and tune will be held on Friday.

This Saturday’s event is presented by Redwood Capital Bank and Eureka Oxygen.
