Lane Thrap broke a 2-2 deadlock with a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh, as the Humboldt Eagles maintained their perfect start to the West Coast Invitational Baseball Classic in Grants Pass with a 7-2 win over Mudville on Saturday evening.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 3-0 in tournament play (34-10 overall) and the will now play NW Diamond Sports in one of Sunday morning’s semifinals as the top seed.
Landon Gomes pitched three hitless innings in relief for the win, after starter Corbin Eichin pitched four strong innings.
Eichin allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out three, while Gomes walked two and struck out out two.
Caleb Ruiz led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while the ever-consistent Keenan Morris was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Morris also scored twice and had two stolen bases.
Bode Joyner continued his impressive tournament with a pair of hits, while Cole Ayala rounded out a nine-hit team performance.
Thrap’s big hit began a five-run seventh for the Eagles.
