By Ray Hamill — Local health officials announced on Wednesday that youth sports activities are close to returning with notable restrictions in place.
The news comes just two days after the state health officials released their new guidelines for youth sports activities to return.
All practices, however, will have to maintain six feet social distancing, while all games and competition will remain prohibited.
The new state guidelines cover high school programs, community youth teams and recreational youth sports programs, as well as physical education classes in school.
High school sports in the state are not scheduled to return until mid-December, while all college fall sports at the community college and NCAA Division I and II levels have been postponed to the new year or canceled.
Once the youth sports are cleared to resume activities, however, high school teams will be able to get together for conditioning and specific skill drills and anything that does not involve close contact.
The new guidelines also suggest all sports activities should take place outdoors if possible.
All adult team sports remain prohibited for now, with the exception of professional teams.
