Records fall early at Redwood Acres, with drivers raring to go

Ray Hamill/ – Chris Lawrence (49) won the opening main event in the Legends division at the Redwood Acres Raceway.

If the first event of the season was anything to go by, it could be a very exciting summer at the Redwood Acres Raceway.

The first four events of the season were wiped out because of COVID-19, and when things finally did get under way earlier this month the drivers were clearly revved up for the occasion and raring to go.

Three track records were set on opening day, with several close finishes and a first-time winner.

The season continues this weekend, with five divisions in action on Saturday, beginning at 3 p.m.

In the Late Models division, David Miller won an exciting opening main event, ahead of Dustin Walters in second and David Henderson in third, and he will try to maintain his fast start to the campaign on Saturday.

Brandon White was one of three record-setters on opening day, setting a new mark in the Bombers division during qualifying, before going on to take the main event.

Likewise with Brett Murrell in the Mini Stocks.

Both also will be looking to stay atop the season standings with another strong showing this weekend.

Chris Lawrence leads the way in the Legends division after placing first in an exciting opening main event, that saw closest competitor Chris Sarvinski spin off at the final turn, while Jeremiah Martin was a first-time winner in the Roadrunner division and also will be looking to maintain his fast start on Saturday.

A third track record was set in the relatively new Bandoleros division, with Kadence Toland setting a new mark in qualifying, before Kadence Mace went on to win the main event. The division is now on hiatus due to safety concerns.

No fans will be allowed in attendance again this weekend, but the action will be streamed live on the raceway’s Facebook page.
