By Ray Hamill — A second local American Legion baseball program, the Northern Humboldt Giants, will hold tryouts next week, as the gradual return to sports continues.
The Giants will follow in the footsteps of the Eureka-based Humboldt Eagles, who returned to the practice field last week.
The Giants’ tryouts will be held at the Arcata Babe Ruth Field on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m., and any players interested in trying out are encouraged to show up.
Restrictions will be in place and club officials say they will follow all health and safety guidelines set out by the county.
“We’ve got a plan,” Giants coach Troy Ghisetti said. “We’re going to social distance and we’re going to do everything that’s been said by the county.”
The vote to hold tryouts was taken by the Giants board on Thursday night.
A third local American Legion program, the Southern Humboldt 76ers, is expected to discuss its options next week.
