By Ray Hamill — The Fortuna Huskies are not afraid to challenge themselves on the football field, and that will be the case once again this fall.
The team recently finalized its 2020 schedule, which includes eight games against playoff teams from 2019.
The good news is that six of the 10 games will be at Husky Field, including three straight to open the campaign and two of their three Big 4 contests later in the year.
As always, one date on the schedule that stands out is the Milk Can showdown against their arch rivals, the Wildcats, which will take place at Ferndale High on Saturday September 19.
The Huskies open the season on August 28 at home to Truckee, followed by home contests against Miramonte and Kelseyville.
They then travel on three straight weekends for games at Ferndale, Foothill and Millennium High in Tracy.
After a non-league home game against defending Division-4 NCS champion Del Norte, the Huskies will have a bye in mid October, before hosting Eureka in their Big 4 opener a week before Halloween.
Fortuna then plays a second game against the Del Norte Warriors on October 30, this one in Crescent City, before hosting St. Bernard’s in their final regular season game on November 6.
Of their nine different opponents, only Kelseyville and Millennium did not make the playoffs last season.
The Huskies finished 4-7 in 2019, including a 2-1 mark in the Big 4 with wins over both Eureka and St. Bernard’s.
