By Ray Hamill — Former Fortuna High and College of the Redwoods standout Kokko Figueiredo has been honored by the California Collegiate Athletic Association after being named a conference all-star in baseball.

Figueiredo, a college senior at Cal State Monterey Bay who also plays for the Humboldt Crabs, had his second season with the Otters cut short due to COVID-19 and was enjoying another stellar campaign.

The starting infielder hit .368 with a team–leading 18 RBIs through 22 games.

He was also on a hot streak when the season was called, having hit successfully in seven straight games, four of them multiple-hit performances.

It is the second year in a row he has been honored by the CCAA, having being named an all-conference selection as a junior.

The Otters, who had three all-stars on their roster, were 13–9 overall and 10–6 in the CCAA when the season was cancelled.

Because of the shortened season, the conference named 20 all-stars in place of the usual all-conference honors handed out each year.

After graduating Fortuna high in 2016, Figueiredo enjoyed two very productive seasons at CR before joining the Division-II Otters in 2019.

Figueiredo is scheduled to play a third straight summer for the Humboldt Crabs if there is a season.
