By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt-Del Norte League schools paid tribute to their student athletes who had their spring sports canceled this year by lighting up the night on Monday.
At 8:20 p.m. the schools around the league turned on their stadium lights in unison, showing support for the disappointed athletes, in particular the seniors.
All of this year’s high school spring sports — baseball, softball, track and field, boys golf and boys tennis — were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Many of the schools in Washington and Oregon also have paid tribute to their seniors in similar fashion.

The McKinleyville High stadium was lit up on Monday night, along with many throughout the H-DNL.
