By Ray Hamill — College of the Redwoods has pushed back its annual fundraising sports dinner and auction due to concerns over COVID-19.
The event was scheduled for August 6 and will now be held at a latter date, yet to be decided.
“Our decision to postpone this year’s sports auction was made out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 virus,” CR President Keith Flamer said in a press release. “This decision was not easy. The health of our college and local community is foremost in our minds. We also recognize the economic strain that the COVID-19 response is having our on local businesses.
“We appreciate having so many wonderful supporters and participants who contribute to our annual sports auction. Postponing the event is the right thing to do for all involved and we pray for the safety of our community and beyond.”
CR Athletic Director Bob Brown added, “It is very unfortunate that we need to postpone this year’s auction, as it is such a great event and opportunity for our college staff, coaches and student athletes to see first-hand how well our community, businesses and individuals support us while honoring one of our own.”
Funds raised at the annual event are used by the Athletics Department to provide services and equipment for CR student athletes and the 13 Corsairs sports teams.
Last year the event raised more than $95,000.
