By Ray Hamill — The 10 section commissioners in California are scheduled to hold a teleconference meeting with the CIF on Friday to discuss the up-to-date impacts of COVID-19 on the high school spring sports seasons.
At a meeting two weeks ago, the CIF opted to postpone making any decisions on the scheduling until April 3.
In a press release at the time, the CIF stated, “While the time may come when we have to cancel postseason events, today is not that day.
“In anticipation of further guidance and directives issued by federal, state and local government agencies regarding COVID-19, the CIF has not determined the future of spring sports events at this time and intends to reconvene with the 10 Section Commissioners on April 3 to revisit this issue.”
The coronavirus crisis has resulted in the closure of all schools in the area and around the state, and they are not expected to reopen again before the end of the school year.
It is widely anticipated that if that remains the case all high school spring sports will also be suspended through the end of the school year.
