By Ray Hamill — On paper it appears as if College of the Redwoods will need a miracle on the basketball court on Saturday night.

Or to be more precise, two of them.

But then again, as the old saying goes, there’s a reason they play the game, and when it comes to sports, miracles are known to happen once in a while.

So why not on Saturday night, and why not the Corsairs?

The good news for both teams as they get set for the next step in what has been a truly memorable season is that neither is expected to win on the road against the top seeds, and neither will be feeling any pressure.

Whether they win or lose, it won’t take from a thrilling campaign for both, in a winter that has been magical for CR fans.

The men’s team plays at City College of San Francisco, which is 29-0 on the season and the No. 1 team in the state.

CR came into the season ranked 98th out of 98 teams in California, and an upset on Saturday would send the Corsairs into the Elite Eight in the state.

The CR women won’t have it any easier when they travel to play San Joaquin Delta College, which is 28-1 and also the No 1 team in the state.

Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m., and both will be streamed live online.

The men’s game will be available through the City College of San Francisco men’s basketball Facebook page.

The women’s game will be available on the CR women’s basketball and the CR athletics Facebook pages.
