Former H-DNL standout Sophie Northern closed out her collegiate basketball career this week with a strong showing in her final game.

Northern scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds for Sonoma State, but it wasn’t enough for the Seawolves, who lost 65-51 at Cal State San Marcos in the California Collegiate Athletic Association women’s tournament.

The loss ends the season for the Seawolves.

Northern, who graduated from Arcata High after playing three seasons at Fortuna, joined the Humboldt State program after high school, before transferring to College of the Redwoods.

She played the past two seasons at Sonoma State, averaging 9.6 points a game in her senior campaign, third best on the Division-II team.

Northern also chipped in 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists this season, while shooting 34 percent form 3-point range.

Her younger sister Bree is enjoying an MVP-type season with CR.
