Thrower, Turner close out in style as HSU women bow out of CCAA tournament

Humboldt State Athletics – HSU’s Alexia Thrower in action on Tuesday night.

The Humboldt State women’s basketball team fell 78-61 at UC San Diego on Tuesday night, as the Lumberjacks’ season came to an end in the opening round of the CCAA Tournament.

Seniors Alexia Thrower and Tyra Turner each closed out with a bang.

Turner set the all-time school record for most career assists (512) in her final game, finishing with two to break the record she shared with Trina Dukes since Saturday.

Turner also had 17 points and eight rebounds.

Thrower, who is coming off an outstanding campaign, posted her 12th double double of the season, finishing with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

The Jacks close out 15-13, posting a third straight winning season and making a third straight appearance in the CCAA tournament, under the direction of head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson.

In the last three seasons, HSU has gone 58-34.
