By Ray Hamill — Friday night was a night to celebrate North Coast basketball.
Two College of the Redwoods teams, featuring mostly H-DNL players and coached by local coaches, both advanced to the Sweet 16 of state play in front of more than 800 local fans.
It simply doesn’t get any better than that for North Coast basketball, and it’s unlikely we’ll see a night like it again for some time.
Or then again, maybe it won’t be too long.
After all, these are two programs that have quickly established themselves as legitimate contenders, with a lot of top local freshmen talent that should only get better.
And they have two exceptional coaching staffs.
More importantly, these are two programs that now suddenly look like an enticing destination for H-DNL players looking for somewhere to take the first step into collegiate basketball.
A far cry from the struggles of recent years.
Head coaches Ryan Bisio and Jain Tuey have each created something special at CR, and that was apparent on Friday night.
Congratulations to both Redwoods teams.
