The McKinleyville Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team won all three of its games over the weekend on the way to clinching the Pacific Union tournament.

Talen Towsend was named tourney MVP after the Mack boys defeated Miranda 68-35 in the championship.

Kalani Butor and Jordan Brown were each also named to the all-tournament team for the Comets.

“Everyone played great defense, and as a team we played great,” McKinleyville head coach Jacob Cheek said. “Everyone contributed, and everyone played hard. And we got better every game.”

The Sunny Brae Roadrunners placed third at the tournament, while Crescent Elk defeated the Redwood Raiders to win the consolation.

Pacific Union won the sixth-grade tournament, defeating Toddy Thomas for the championship, while Jacoby Creek defeated Winship for third and Ferndale won the consolation.

The local middle school season continues this coming weekend with the Zane tournament.

The Mack boys will also host their own McKinleyville Comet Classic the following weekend, with games being played at three different venues.

The two-day tournament will feature 32 teams, including 16 eighth-grade teams in A and B brackets.
