The Humboldt State men’s basketball team ended a five-game losing streak on Thursday night, winning 98-93 in overtime at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Jacks have been competitive despite the recent losses, with three of those five defeats by six or less points.
On Thursday, however, they finally won a close game with five players scoring in double digits, led by Isaiah Pope with a career-high 21 points.
Rob Lewis finished with 20 points and Zachariah Christian had 18 points.
The Jacks (3-8 in conference and 7-9 overall) outscored the home team 19-14 in overtime.
The HSU women, meanwhile lost 64-58, also at Domiguez Hills, their third straight defeat and fifth in six games.
Alexia Thrower paced the Jacks with 17 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Gabrielle Carbajal chipped in 13 points and seven points.
The Jacks (5-6 in conference and 9-7 overall) led by nine points after the opening quarter, but the home team came storming back to outscore them 20-9 in the second quarter.
Both HSU teams will play at Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday, with the women tipping off at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
