The Del Norte Warriors proved too strong for the Huskies in Fortuna on Wednesday night, keeping their perfect start to league play going with a 53-35 win in boys basketball.
Omar Banuelos led the way as the Warriors improved to 2-0 in the Big 5 and 13-1 overall.
The senior guard scored a game-high 18 points, including four 3-pointers.
“It was a really nice win,” Del Norte head coach Marc Slayton said. “To get that win on the road at Fortuna, it’s always a tough place to play. The kids came out with intensity.”
Judson Pincombe added 10 points in the win while Anthony Slayton finished with nine points and Kobe Mitchell eight.
“We wanted to make sure we came out and played a complete game, and I think we did that,” the head coach said.
Kaleb Price also had a big game for the visitors, playing strong defensively and doing a lot of the physical work for his team.
Bo Cox led the way for the Huskies, who suffered their first league loss in three games while dropping to 8-11 overall.
Matt Berti continued his recent good run for the team with nine points, while Fernando Atilano finished with five points and Jaden Kelley and Chaz Schlesiger each had four points.
The Huskies will have a bye from league play this weekend and will play next at home to Ferndale on Monday before traveling to Arcata next Wednesday.
