Redwoods men and women both climb in the polls

By Ray Hamill — After their impressive victories over the weekend, both College of the Redwoods basketball teams continued to move up in the state coaches polls.

The CR men rose one spot after defeating Butte 89-81 in overtime and are now the No. 13 ranked team out of 98 in California.

The Corsairs, who are 14-3, have won nine straight games and have beaten three top-20 teams this season, No. 9 Santa Rosa, No. 18 Mendocino and No 20. Butte.

The CR women also got the better of a highly-ranked Butte team (No. 18) on Saturday, beating the Roadrunners 79-72.

With the win, their 11th in 12 games, the Corsairs improved to 13-3 on the season, and their recent form has been noticed by the coaches in California.

This week, the CR women broke into the NorCal poll at No. 14 and are also listed as one of a handful of teams just outside the state top-20

The Corsairs can make a serious statement this week when they play at Feather River on Thursday and at Lassen on Saturday.

Feather River is ranked No. 11 in NorCal, while Lassen is No. 13.
