The 17-1 Fortuna Huskies appear to be getting even better.

On Tuesday night, the Fortuna girls came away from Del Norte with a comfortable 53-31 win over the Warriors in basketball to go to 3-0 in the Big 5 and stretch their winning streak to 11 straight.

Playing in what is always a tough environment against the defending league champions, this was arguably the Huskies’ most impressive win yet.

And once again they won with strong, disciplined defense, as well as a balanced scoring effort.

Moncerrat Bernal led the Huskies with 13 points, while Charlotte Carroll scored 12 and Gracie Betts 11.

Del Norte junior Jadence Clifton, who has lit up opposing defenses this season, finished the night with 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and two assists.

She did not go to the line once, as the Warriors made just four free-throw attempts for the entire night to the visitors’ 23.

“I’ve never seen a team play a 2-3 zone to stop a point guard,” a surprised Del Norte head coach Justin Clifton said, while also admitting his players shot poorly.

“The shooting wasn’t there. In the second quarter we couldn’t score. We were missing wide-open 3s.”

Gianna Taylor added eight points for the Warriors, who are now 0-2 in the Big 5 and 9-7 overall, while Olivia Stilwell finished with four rebounds and three points.

  1. A 2-3 is exactly what should be run to stop a team with an overwhelming threat at the point. Help defense to stop the drives, daring the opponent to make perimeter shots. Strong rebounding.

  2. Let’s not forget about How Fortuna got to live at the Freethrow line shooting 23 and DN only shot 4 . Clifton shooting Zero! Call it what you want but it’s been going on for years!
