ATHLETES AND TEAM OF THE WEEK — Eureka seniors, Fortuna basketball honored

By Ray Hamill — Basketball and wrestling take center stage this week, as we honor the best performances from this past weekend.

And that includes a couple of Eureka High seniors.

On the basketball court, Trevor Bell was named tourney MVP after helping the Eureka boys win their own Logger Classic.

Fellow senior Aracely Rendon continued her impressive start to the wresting season with another stellar performance at the West Coast Women’s Tournament of Champions.

And that’s good enough to get both of them the nod as this week’s Humboldt Sports Athletes of the Week.

Up at McKinleyville High, meanwhile, the Fortuna girls basketball team continued its fast start to the new season by winning the Lady Panther Classic, earning our team of the week honors in the process.
