Former Arcata standout Kaylie McCracken is making a case for more playing time at Whitman College, scoring a game-high 14 points to lead the Blues to an 82-55 win over Concordia in women’s basketball over the weekend.
McCracken, a 2018 Arcata High grad, is in her second season at Whitman and has seen substantial playing time off the bench in all seven of Whitman’s games so far this season.
The Division-III Whitman women are riding high in the national rankings, coming into the Concordia game as the No. 9 team in the nation and improving to 6-0 with the win.
They since have lost for the first time this season, to Mary Hardin Baylor on Sunday, and dropped to No. 15 in this week’s rankings.
McCracken, who saw playing time in all 27 games as a freshman and started 17 of them, is averaging 7.6 points a game this season, fourth best on the team
She is also pulling down 4.3 boards a game, third best on the team.
The Blues play the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Friday.
