The Eureka Loggers kept their fast start to the season going with a 53-38 win over Petaluma at the Piner tournament in basketball on Friday night.

Sophia Chalmers led the way on offense with a team-high 19 points in the win, as the Eureka girls improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in tourney play.

Carly Boynton added 12 points, while Malia Guilbert had nine and Kellina Pratton eight.

St. Bernard’s 47, Sonoma Academy 30

The Crusaders won for the second straight night at the Marin Academy tournament on Friday night, setting up a rematch of last year’s tournament championship game against the host school.

The Crusaders got a balanced team performance with nine different players scoring. led by Josie Peterson and Marayah Tomlinson with nine points each.

Shelby Jordan and Saulele Tanuvasa each finished with seven points for the 3-0 St. Bernard’s girls, while Fa’apisa Fonoti had six points.

Marin Academy won last year’s championship game 63-54.

After Friday’s game, the host school provided the Crusaders with a classroom to stream the second half of the St. Bernard’s state playoff football game.

Arcata 49, McKinleyville 47

The Tigers got the better of their close rivals in an early-season meeting between the two at the Arcata tournament on Friday night.

With the win, the Tigers improved to 3-0, while the Panthers dropped to 0-3.

Rayn Tripp led the Panthers with 11 points while Cameron Heenan added nine points and Hailee Henry seven.

No scoring details were available for Arcata.
