By Ray Hamill — Ferndale football can score on its opponents in a lot of different ways, and on Saturday they caught the Wolverines off guard with a wildcat play that resulted in a touchdown.
Yes, the Wildcats scored on a wildcat.
Facing a fourth-and-five at the Willits 10-yard line, Ferndale snapped the ball directly to running back Landon Gomes, who threw to wide-open tight end Tristen Martin in the end zone.
It was one of five TDs on the day for the Wildcats, who comfortably took care of the Wolverines by a score of 35-7 to advance to next weekend’s NCS Division-7 championship game against Salesian.
Martin has become an integral part of the Wildcats offense, giving head coach Clint McClurg and his coaches a dangerous weapon, especially in the red zone.
Check out Martin’s big catch here, as well as a three-yard Lane Branstetter TD run and an 11-yard Landon Gomes TD run.
