By Ray Hamill — Get ready for selection Sunday, North Coast Section style.
The section seedings committee will release the 2019 football playoff brackets this weekend, with Prep2Prep.com projecting six or seven of the nine North Coast teams will make the field, as expected.
The only real question mark, according to Prep2Prep, is whether Hoopa will qualify in Division 7, with a play-in game between the Warriors and California School for the Deaf this Saturday.
The two schools arranged the game last week after the NCS announced it was pushing back the playoff openers by one week, and they were able to do so because neither had played a maximum 10-game schedule.
The winner is essentially guaranteed a postseason berth and the loser done for the year.
Also in Division 7, Little 4 champion Ferndale, which has won eight of its last nine games, looks likely to receive the No. 2 seed behind Salesian.
In Division 5, Prep2Prep is projecting Del Norte will receive the No. 2 seed after rolling over Eureka 48-19 and clinching the Big 4 title in its regular season finale last weekend.
The Warriors will get a home game to open, and according to Prep2Prep that likely will be against Fortuna, which is the projected No. 7 seed in the bracket.
This would be the third matchup between the two Big 4 rivals this season, and fifth in two years, with Del Norte winning on both occasions this fall.
In Division 6, Prep2Prep is projecting St. Bernard’s will receive the two seed, behind Kennedy of Richmond, with Arcata earning the No. 8 seed.
If that holds true, it would give the Crusaders a home game to open against Pinole Valley, while Arcata would play at Kennedy.
South Fork is also guaranteed to make the bracket in eight-person football, and will open with a home game.
