By Ray Hamill — The McKinleyville Panthers matched their on-court success in volleyball with some impressive fundraising off of it this season.
The Panthers not only pushed Big 5 champion Arcata all the way in conference play on their way to qualifying for the North Coast Section playoffs, but also held their fifth annual Dig Pink fundraiser for the Arcata Breast and GYN Project.
And this year’s event, held on October 15, was the most successful yet, raising $7,283 to bring their five-year total to $23,191.
Head coach Janis Grondalski had set a target for her players to reach $20,000 in total this season, a mark they easily surpassed.
The players get sponsors in their community to donate for every dig the team recorded that night.
“A big thank you goes out to our very supportive community,” Grondalski said.
