There were mixed fortunes for the two H-DNL teams still remaining in the North Coast Section volleyball playoffs on Thursday night.
The Arcata Tigers advanced to the second round of the Division-IV bracket with a straight sets win over visiting St. Mary’s at Arcata High, winning 25-23, 25-17, 25-19.
No individual stats were available for the Arcata girls, who improved to 24-7.
The No. 8 seeds will now play at No. 1 Cardinal Newman on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals are 24-5 on the season.
In Division VI, the No. 6 St. Bernard’s girls weren’t quite so fortunate, falling in five sets to No. 11 Anderson Valley at St. Bernard’s.
The Crusaders fell 25-20, 15-25, 27-25, 12-25, 15-13 in a back-and-forth game.
The Panthers advance to play at No. 3 Calistoga on Saturday.
The Crusaders, who won the Little 5 with an 8-0 record, closed out the season 12-10 overall.
