By Ray Hamill — Sophomore Shane Purcell got the start at quarterback for the Arcata Tigers on Friday night and he didn’t disappoint.

Purcell threw for two touchdowns in a 32-0 win over McKinleyville, including one to senior receiver Niko Zambas in the third quarter, as the Tigers kept their playoff hopes alive.

With the win, Arcata is now 5-4 with one game remaining.

In addition to several standout defensive performances, both Purcell and Zambas had an impact on offense, as did Kien Mazzotti, who ran in for two TDs.

Purcell also connected with Carson Tucker on a scoring pass.
