By Ray Hamill — Del Norte fans felt short-changed in a game against Fortuna for the second time this season after a number of penalties went against them on Friday night.

Fortunately for the Warriors they won the game 20-7 thanks to a dominating performance that saw them control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

But Del Norte fans still felt frustrated, particularly with a couple of calls that went against them late in the first half, and not for the first time in a matchup against Fortuna this season.

After being called for 150 yards of penalties in a game against the Huskies last month, the penalty count was lopsided once again on Friday, with the visiting Del Norte players called for roughly the same amount again, according to head coach Nick White.

And that left many Del Norte fans feeling frustrated, especially late in the first half.

One non call in particular irked the visiting faithful with just a few seconds remaining in the second quarter, when Fortuna DB Kevin Gage and Del Norte receiver Conner Long became entangled on a fourth and long.

Judge for yourself from the video footage whether this should have been a pass interference call.

The non call came just moments after Long was called for offensive pass interference on Gage on an apparent TD catch, also included in the video footage.

It’s difficult to say for sure, but a screenshot of the video footage makes it look like Long has his hand on Gage’s back on that play.

Fortunately for the Warriors, the controversial calls did not affect the outcome of the game.

  1. Both plays were correctly assessed.

#1. FHS player squared up to pass with opportunity to make a play and DNHS WR ran into him, possibly an attempt to simulate a PI flag

#2. DNHS wr pushed db in the back of shoulder blade area, db had opportunity to make a play
