By Ray Hamill — It’s been a good week for McKinleyville senior golfer Phoebe Sundberg.
In addition to placing third at the North Coast Section D-II championships at Beau Pre on Monday, Sundberg was also awarded the NCS Touchstone Golf Foundation Scholarship, which is handed out to one male and one female golfer in the NCS.
The scholarship is for $1,000, to be used towards her education.
Monday’s high finish at the NCS championships was the fifth time the Mack senior has medaled at sections in her four years competing.
Sundberg also placed third individually as a freshman, and was a member of the 2017 and 2018 McKinleyville NCS championship teams, as well as the team that placed second in 2016.
All in all, that’s an impressive haul of NCS medals for Sundberg, who will play golf at Dominican University after graduation..
The senior will now advance to play at Monday’s NCS D-I championships in Rohnert Park against the best golfers in the section, along with her younger sister Isabella Sundberg and Arcata’s Avary Henry.
Henry placed seventh individually at Beau Pre, as well as helping the Arcata girls to a third-place finish as a team, while the younger Sundberg finished tied for 15th.
