By Ray Hamill — One loss apparently hasn’t shaken the North Coast’s confidence in the Eureka girls soccer team.

Despite losing to Arcata 2-1 last weekend and seeing a two-year unbeaten league run come to an end, the Loggers are still the favorites to win this year’s league title, according to local sports fans.

We asked you earlier this week which of the three heavyweights in the H-DNL do you think will win the league title, and 41 percent of voters said Eureka is still the team to beat.

The vote, however, was far from overwhelming, with many of you confident either Arcata or Fortuna has what it takes to finish top.

The Tigers pulled in 30 percent of the votes cast, with the Huskies right on their heels with 29 percent.

The Fortuna girls currently lead the way in the standings with seven wins from seven league games, with Eureka (5-1) and Arcata (5-2) right behind them.

No matter who wins, the race for the championship is likely to go down to the final day of action, with Fortuna and Eureka scheduled to play each other twice in the coming weeks, including a big showdown at Fortuna on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
